The man injured in yesterday's four-wheeler accident on the Mahaska County side of the Des Moines River has been identified as Joseph Michael Ferguson, 61, of Knoxville.
As reported, the Marion County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a man injured near the river outside Tracy around 2:09 p.m. Thursday. Clay Township Rescue, the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Mahaska County Sheriff's Office all responded.
Deputy Scott Miller with the Mahaska County Sheriff's Office said it appeared as though Ferguson rolled the four-wheeler on private land. He is not sure what happened, but he speculated that the four-wheeler rolled over Ferguson's leg and broke a bone.
"I don't exactly know what happened," Miller said.
The Mercy helicopter was dispatched to the scene for transport because the accident took place so far from the highway. The helicopter landed on a sand bar along the Des Moines River. Ferguson was awake and conscious when he was transported. Miller said Ferguson's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
