The 2020 VFW Post 3519 located in Knoxville, presented their Teacher of the Year Award Friday, Jan. 31.

Claiming the award this year was Carla Bauer.

The presentation took place at the Knoxville Middle School.

Carla teaches part-time at North Elementary and at the Knoxville Middle School.

At the grade school she teaches third through fifth grade students general music. At the Middle School she teaches 8th grade general music.

Carla loves to teach as she has been a teacher for 26 years now.

“At the elementary, I teach students to sing, play and read music. At the middle school, we tackle a lot of projects. I teach a unit on guitar and we have a movie score that we work on,” Carla said.

When asked what she enjoys most about teaching? Her reply was, “It will be interacting with the students.”

“It was great to receive this honor. I always try to work some patriotic stuff into my teaching. It is nice to be recognized for that,” she added.

The award from the VFW came with a certificate and monetary gift card to be used in the classroom.

The 2019 recipient of the VFW Teacher of the Year went to Katie Spriggs. Spriggs teaches at North Elementary.
