Local police are investigating a shots fired call involving a suicidal male in an incident that occurred overnight.
At approximately 1:04 a.m. on July 15, the Knoxville Police Department received a call about a possibly suicidal individual firing shots in the 400 block of North Lincoln Street. Officers and Marion County deputies responded to the area and saw a male at the reported address fire a shot.
The area was secured, including blocking all traffic on N. Lincoln St. and an attempt was made to contact the individual by phone. About 20 minutes later the individual said that he would come outside, unarmed, and speak with officers. The subject did so and was contacted by officers.
After being detained officers did a protective sweep of the home and found that no one had been injured. A search warrant was later obtained and various firearms were recovered.
The 36-year-old Knoxville resident was transported to the Knoxville Hospital & Clinic for an evaluation. The matter is still under investigation and charges are pending.
