Crews battling garage fire in Knoxville

Fire crews battle a garage fire at South Brobst Street and West Jefferson Street in Knoxville Thursday afternoon.

KNOXVILLE — Crews from the Knoxville City Fire Department were dispatched around 1 p.m. Thursday for a garage fire at 514 S. Brobst St.

Heavy smoke and flames were present at the structure as fire crews arrived.

The garage was detached, but an adjacent home received some fire damage from the blaze, as well.

The full extent of the damage to the house is not yet known, but much of the garage has been charred by the fire.

A large explosion was heard as crews reported to the scene.

Within 20 minutes crews seemed to have most of the fire extinguished, though heavy smoke was still coming from the residence.
