Rehearsals are underway for Mary Poppins, which will be performed on Nov. 14-17 at the Knoxville Performing Arts Center. This Broadway musical is being produced by Knoxville Area Community Theatre (KACT) in cooperation with the Knoxville Community School District.
Mary Poppins tells the story of a magical nanny who blows into the lives of a troubled London family, helping them to discover the wonderful world around them and rediscover each other. This stage production includes some music from the classic 1964 movie, but includes new songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. The original script for the stage was written by Julian Fellowes, the creator of Downton Abbey.
In the KACT production the title character of Mary Poppins will be played by Jana DeZwarte, who most recently appeared in the KACT productions of Nice Work If You Can Get It and Oliver! Knoxville students Rebekah Bennett and Shalom Watson play the mischievous Banks children. Other principal characters will be played by Nick Root, Michael Garrison and Alison Buechler.
Featured characters will be played by Greg May, Denise Gregory, Sara Collins, Phyllis Boyer, Carol Adkins, Katelynn Collins, Jack Kramer, Matt Ellis, Brian Black, and Jennifer Bingham. Ensemble members include RaShawn Boyer, Julie Collins, Kim Collins, Taylor Decious, Tanner Errthum, Troy Errthum, Kailan Ethell, Diego Garcia, Emily Humeston, Sally Job, Willow Kam, Destiny Keith, Piper King, Mary Kramer, Johanna Leonard, Hunter McCullough, Riley Newendorp, Taylor Newendorp, Mya Pearson, Mary Piagentini, Claire Schneider, Abi Vander Linden and Kristy Bennett.
Production team leads for the show are Carol Adkins, Marty Adkins, Michael Howland, McKenzie Niday, Troy Errthum, and Al Vander Linden. Other production team members are Riley Newendorp, Charissa Hamel and Jennifer Bingham.
