KCSD and Habitat

One of the top goals of the Knoxville Community School District is “being a caring community.” The district’s staff members have continued to live out that vision over the past year.

During the 2018-2019 school year, KCSD staff raised more than $10,000 for local charities. So far this school year, the staff has raised $941 for Habitat for Humanity, $700 for the Marion County Humane Society and $820 for the Salvation Army. Earlier this month, staff raised $910 for a Knoxville student undergoing cancer treatments.

In the months ahead, staff members plan to make donations to the Knoxville Special Olympics team, Helping Hands, Your Life Matters and The Well.

On Saturday, January 25, KCSD staff took part in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer event—now in its 12th year. About 70 percent of the money raised stays in Marion County to help local families fighting the disease. The remainder goes toward continued efforts to find a cure and increase survival rates. The event also celebrates the more than 15.5 million cancer survivors nationwide.

Throughout the year, numerous local events contribute toward the Coaches vs. Cancer total fundraising efforts. These include a cancer relay, a silent auction, alumni games, T-shirt sales, cash donations, tattoo and other fundraiser sales, BBQ meal, ice cream and cookie sales, shooting contests, Chuck a Duck and concessions sales.

“Our staff does an unbelievable job of supporting our community in so many impactful ways, serving as a great example of civic engagement and philanthropy for our students,” said Cassi Pearson, KCSD Superintendent. “Our district is made up of people who truly exemplify what it means to be a caring community. We are very much looking forward to seeing the impact they will make in the months to come.”

In addition to being a caring community, the district also strives to serve as a leader in 21st century learning. To learn more about KCSD’s goals and the wide range of ways the district works to meet those goals, visit http://www.knoxville.k12.ia.us/district/district-goals/.
