Police K-9 units from four departments, including Knox from the Knoxville Police Department, took part in a standard school lockdown drill at Pella Community High School on Tuesday.
Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky said the drill was intended to let students know that the police perform such actions as lockdown drug searches. The dogs searched the school during the exercise, similar to one done last year. No drugs were found or charges filed.
Bokinsky said these searches are common in the area, He said it is good for the school as well as law enforcement to establish protocols in the event of the real thing. It is also a good exercise for the dogs.
Dogs from the Monroe Police Department and the Jasper and Poweshiek County Sheriff's Offices also took part.
