Knoxville residents were able to attend the third-annual 55-plus Health Fair at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics on July 25.

The health fair was catered towards older members of the community, targeting those over the age of 55. This was the third year the hospital held the 55+ Health Fair, after seeing success during the first two years.

“We didn’t have a fair for the older population, so that’s something three years ago we decided we wanted to start doing,” says Katrina Nelson, Director of Public Relations for the hospital. “It has been a success and we wanted to continue it.”

The hospital holds a variety of events throughout the year. In addition to the 55+ Health Fair, they also hold a fair for women during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, as well as a kids health fair in the spring.

Since the first 55+ Health Fair three years ago, the event has continued to grow and receive positive feedback from community members. The fair now features over thirty vendors, including local dentists, hospice services, various departments from within the hospital, aging resources and the local recreation center.

“We just have a variety of local vendors that are out here providing information about their services and providing information on health and wellness,” said Nelson.

In addition to providing information on services and resources to those who attended the event, there were also giveaways from local businesses, as well as a door prize given away at the end of the evening. There were also complimentary health screenings available for those who visited the health fair.

“The people that do attend the fair, they really enjoy it,” says Nelson. “They enjoy the giveaways and the door prizes… that’s always a draw. It’s always a fun event for us.”
