The July 2019 meeting for the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post 168 was called to order by Commander Curt Froyen.
Jack Spaur gave reviews of last months meeting minutes, membership and financial reports, all of which were approved by the 16 members in attendance. Lee Meyers was present and asked to give a little history of his time in the US Navy band.
Conrad Nelson gave an update on the roof repairs. Originally, they were asked to give a quote to install tapered insulation to improve the drainage on the south part of the roof. During the winter the shaded area on the south by the alley from the Methodist Church had an accumulation of ice.
When using spades to break off the ice, the rubber roof was damaged and caused leaks. The contractor suggested that ice melt could be used to help melt the ice accumulation when it develops. A quote will be coming for the tapered insulation installation to improve drainage.
Conrad Nelson continued telling the group about the Honor Flight experiences he and Dean Shinn had when they traveled to Washington DC on May 21st. A full day of visiting the various monuments which included the WW2 Memorial, Arlington changing of the guard ceremony, Iwo Jima, new Air Force monument and lastly the Vietnam, Korea and Lincoln monument.
It was very much appreciated for the honors and welcoming extended to the two planeloads out of Des Moines. Locally an Honor Flight is being organized by Don Zoutte. The national Honor Flight information can be found at Honorflight.org.
