Pleasantville American Legion Post 108 and Auxiliary Unit 108 will celebrate the 100th anniversary of livelihood for their organizations which were established on November 10, 1919.

The groups will be holding a celebration, Open to the Public, on Saturday, June 15, from 1-4 p.m. in the Memorial Building located at 101 N. Jefferson St. in Pleasantville. Cake and homemade ice cream will be available as well as drawings for door prizes.

Military displays including the Pleasantville Veteran’s Photo Memorial, uniforms, historical articles, family veterans’ histories, photos and firearms will be shared covering the last 100 years of history.

The Legion has many functions on an ongoing basis including military funeral services for veterans, distribution of food baskets at Christmas, sponsorship for Boys State, Avenue of Flags, parades, scholarships to high school seniors, Memorial Day services, 21 Gun Salutes, pancake breakfasts and numerous other community activities.

The Auxiliary supports the Legion for the pancake breakfasts and parades in addition to sponsoring Girls State, distribution of poppies, luncheons for veterans, providing grave markers for members, and supporting veterans locally and those in veterans and nursing homes.
