DES MOINES — Participants from across Iowa competed in the Open Singles and Seniors Championship divisions of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament held Wednesday, Aug.14, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

The Fair hosted both Championship and Open Class competitions every Fair day. Division winners were crowned daily.

Mother-Daughter Look-A-Likes Impress at the Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES — Twenty-nine teams from across the Midwest competed in the Mother-Daughter Look-alike contest judged Sunday, Aug. 18, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

First place was awarded to Clara Formaro and Charlene Bowen of Des Moines. Second place went to Bree and Quinn Cooper of Urbandale. Tamare Alexander and Bailey Finken of Harvey received third place.

The contest was part of “Rural Americana Olde Tyme Competitions” in Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall. First prize was awarded $5 and ribbons were awarded to each class.

Wellsburg Farm Awarded Top Honors at Iowa State Fair Hawkeye Market Swine Show

DES MOINES — Tommy Janssen of Wellsburg was awarded the Grand Champion Hawkeye Market Swine Banner at the Hawkeye Market Swine show at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Chanan and Tinlee Snakenberg of Fremont were awarded Reserve Grand Champion Hawkeye Market Swine.

DES MOINES — Matthew Phoenix of Ankeny won first place and a movie gift card award in the Iowa’s Best Bacon Dessert competition judged Saturday, Aug. 17, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines earned second place. Julie Peterson of Knoxville claimed third place.

Contestants were challenged to create a dessert featuring bacon.

Entries were judged on taste, originality, appearance/presentation and story.

Wisconsin Exhibitor Took Top Honors in Iowa State Fair Sheep Show

DES MOINES — Brayden Bowers of Belmont Wis., won the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion banners in the Jackpot Lamb show judged at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.
