Rehearsals for this Broadway musical have been underway since mid-August. Cast members from Marion County and surrounding communities have been hard at work learning both music from the classic 1964 movie and new songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Adding to the musical magic is original choreography written and taught by MacKenzie Niday.
The original script for the stage was written by Julian Fellowes, the creator of the PBS series Downton Abbey. Development of original sets, visual effects and costumes have been led by Carol Adkins, Troy Errthum and Al Vander Linden. The show is being directed by Marty Adkins, with musical direction by Michael Howland.
“This stage version of Mary Poppins is a great story, and has a lot to say about family relationships and life’s priorities” said Marty Adkins. “We have a wonderful cast that has really dialed into each character. I’ve been very impressed with their talent and commitment. I think people that come to see this show are in for a real treat!”
Mary Poppins, based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film, tells the story of a magical nanny who blows into the lives of a troubled London family, helping them to discover the wonderful world around them — and rediscover each other.
Disney and Cameron Macintosh’s Mary Poppins is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
