Community members joined the Knoxville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3519 at a crawfish boil on Saturday to celebrate their recent recognition as an All-State Post.

The post invited members of the community to enjoy fresh crawfish, live music from Sierra Griggs and a chance to throw pies in commanders’ faces. The public was given the opportunity to purchase pies for $5 to raise money for programs the post participates with throughout the year.

“It feels really good to be recognized,” said post commander Jake Beaver. “I’ve been the commander since 2013, and it’s taken a lot to figure it out. There’s a lot that goes into running a VFW. This year, we’ve gotten more members that have taken on those projects and got them going.”

The post was named All-State in May of this year. Along with 11 others, it was recognized out of 127 posts in the state.
