Embroidery store Walnut Hill Designs celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Nov. 22.

Owner Michelle Doty was joined by the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors to honor the store’s opening. Doty’s husband, Dave, is also an owner, but was unable to attend the ribbon cutting.

Doty had previously been running an embroidery business in her home, but knew that it was time to look for a larger space.

“Around September, for some reason I kept thinking I should look for a commercial space,” Doty said. “I wasn’t ready, but God kept saying move.”

Doty says that when she walked past the vacant window at 207 E. Main St. and saw the sign looking for a renter, she knew it was the right time to move.

“I love doing what I do. I love embroidering,” Doty said. “I love designing, so I finally know what I want to be when I grow up.”

Walnut Hill Designs has two embroidery machines with the capabilities to embroider a variety of materials, including shirts, hats, aprons and more. Doty takes custom orders, saying they are her specialty. She is able to digitize designs without charging for set-up fees, and has no minimum requirements for order sizes.

With the opening of Walnut Hill Designs, Doty says she is looking forward to visiting with people everyday and getting to know customers. Walnut Hill Designs is a Christian business, and Doty says she is looking forward to being a light of Christ in Knoxville.

Walnut Hill Designs is located at 207 E. Main St. in Knoxville.
