Pleasantville Chamber Director Don Dursky

The Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce plans to start a new holiday tradition this year that is only expected to grow in the years to come.

Christmas in the Park will be held at the Cora Shadle Park Shelter House on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 4-7 p.m.

"I think that it's important for the City to have the opportunity for kids to meet Santa," Chamber Director Don Dursky said. Santa will be joined by Mrs. Claus. There will also be cookie decorating stations, cookies for adults, coffee, hot chocolate, carolers from local churches and the shelter house will be decorated for the season.

Dursky said this year's event will be "low-key," but next year, he and his fellow organizers hope for something much bigger. His vision includes lighting the park in a manner similar to Des Moines' Jolly Holiday Lights. The park can accommodate drive through visitors and bring them to the shelter.

Planning for the 2017 event will begin soon, including a search for sponsors. Dursky hopes that the 2017 Christmas celebration will be a three-day event that will involve many Chamber members, as well as the community.
