OTTUMWA — Firefighters rescued a woman from the Des Moines River on Monday.
Bayle Walker of Ottumwa was pulled into a logjam near the Blackhawk Access, where she held on as rescuers worked to reach her. She and her boyfriend had docked their boat nearby and were wading when she lost her footing.
The Des Moines River remains above flood stage. It is currently at 12.7 feet, and has been higher than the 11.5-foot flood stage since May 24.
While Walker was rescued, authorities caution that the high, swift water makes this a dangerous time to be on the river.
