Seven Marion County high school football players were recently honored with Academic All-State recognition.
In order to receive Academic All-State from the Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA) a player must meet the following criteria.
They must be a senior starter. They mush have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or better at the end of their junior year.
They player must be involved in other extra-curricular activities. The head coach must recommend the player.
Meeting thar criteria in Class 3A were Cael Hollinrake, of Knoxville and Blake Recker of Pella.
In Class 1A the Pleasantville Trojans landed three players on the academic listing, Cale Anthony, Brendan Aldrich and Cael Berglund.
The Pella Christian Eagles also placed Jase Amelse and Devin Haveman on the Academic All-State list as well in Class 1A.
It should be noted that all four teams in Marion County with a representative on the Academic All-State Team, also had records of .500 or better in 2019.
The Pella High Dutch were 8-3 overall under the direction of head coach Jay McKinstrey.
Knoxville turned in a final record of 6-3 led by coach Eric Kellar.
Pleasantville was 5-4 for the year and the Pella Christian Eagles were 5-5. The Eagles were coached by Rich Kacmarynski and the Trojans by Mack Jorth.
