The Knoxville Panthers returned from the holiday break with action on the mat at home against the Ballard Bombers Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Ballard is traditionally a strong squad and that was the case again this year as the Bombers won the meet 60-20.

Knoxville managed to pick up only four wins while giving up two forfeits along the way.

KHS wins were gathered in by Marco Alejo (113) with a technical fall in 3:22. Next came Luke Spaur (120) with a pin over Gavin Estabrooks in 5:18.

Also winning for the Panthers were Gabe Gordon in a hard fought 10-7 decision at 126 and Jax Bellon at 152 with a pin in 5:53.

Odds and Ends

Knoxville senior Ben Brewster’s wrestling season only lasted seconds.

In the first meet of the year at home, Brewster suffered a broken leg. The ambulance was called in to help out.

The meet was held Dec. 5 as the Panthers hosted both Nevada and Pella.

Brewster’s father, Jeff, reports that in a sign of sportsmanship, his son received a hand made get well card for Ben from the Pella High wrestling team and head coach Jay Pike.

It goes to show that not all rivalries are heated. Sure each team/individual wants to win, but sportsmanship of this kind goes a long way.

Panther Coach Doug Hatch stated, “I thought that was very kind of Pella to do and I want to thank them.”
