The 2016 Sports Year in Review for teams covered by the Knoxville Journal-Express were filled with highlights from around the county.

It proved to be a rather difficult decision selecting the top story with so many talented feats in the year.

Listed below will be the top 33 highlights for 2016. The list easily can be debated.

It is compiled by Journal-Express Sports Editor Perry Bell.

The list is more for fun than actual debate. It’s a time to reflect back to the 2016 season and enjoy as described below and as depicted by the photos that were selected.

The Pleasantville Trojan baseball team took top honors just in front of the Knoxville Panther boys’ track team in 2015.

In 2014 the top sports story was the Twin Cedars Baseball Team. The team won a state title and was perfect with a record of 36-0.

The two years prior to that the Panther track team won top billing.

Only extra-curricular activities normally covered on the sports pages made the list. Thus, cheerleading and dance teams were not included in the highlights, to name a few.
