A three-game winning streak last week put the Knoxville Panther varsity softball record above the .500 mark for the first time since they were 8-7 following a win over the EBF Rockets June 14.
The Panthers knocked off Clarke 4-1 Monday, June 24 at home and they went on the road to beat the PCM (Monroe) Mustangs 10-7 June 25 and Chariton 12-0 June 27.
Wins over Clarke and Chariton put Coach Coy Hupfeld’s squad at 8-3 in the South Central Conference and at 12-11 overall.
KHS pitcher Ashlyn Finarty spun a four-hitter at the Clarke Indians. She struck out six and walked four in claiming the victory.
Knoxville never trailed in the 4-1 win.
The Panthers only had six hits, but they were aided by five walks.
KHS senior leadoff hitter Emery Neer was the offensive leader with two singles and a double. She also scored two of the four Panther runs.
Emma Dunkin, A. Finarty and Reilly Finarty each had one hit for KHS.
The 10-7 win over the PCM Mustangs proved to be a wild one in Monroe.
Knoxville trailed 5-2 before scoring seven runs in the fourth inning to pull out the win.
Finarty earned the win in the circle as she allowed eight hits and seven runs five of which were earned.
Neer again had three hits for the Panthers and scored three runs.
Not to be outdone, KHS senior Alex Griggs collected three hits, one being a grand slam home run as she drove in five runs.
Ashlyn Finarty had just one hit, but it was a home run as she had two RBI for the game.
The Panthers hammered the Chariton Chargers 12-0 in Chariton in a 5-inning contest.
Neer had her third, three-hit game of the week for Knoxville.
Eighth grade catcher Melanie Sullivan also had three hits for Knoxville.
Adding two hits each for the Panthers were Emma Dunkin, Maddy Findley and Griggs. Dunkin and Griggs each had three RBI while A. Finarty had two RBI.
A. Finarty pitched a 3-hitter against Chariton. She fanned five and walked nobody.
