The Knoxville Panthers weren’t at full strength when they faced the Mount Pleasant Panthers on the road in non-conference volleyball play Oct. 3.
Despite being short-handed the Panthers stepped up and beat the Panthers 25-20, 25-10, 25-15. The win put Coach Mollie Keitges’ squad at 20-1 overall.
The No. 9 ranked Panthers were minus the services of two players from their usual rotation on the court, Amy Sullivan and Maggie Wilkins as both were out of the lineup.
Marley McKay had 36 assists in the match. The main go-to athlete of the night was senior Katie Keitges.
Keitges had a brilliant night with 21 kills and only four errors.
Behind Keitges in the hitting department were Reilly Finarty with eight kills and Tara Uitermarkt with seven.
Five Knoxville players had double digit dig totals for the night. Keitges had 17 digs, Lauren Micetich 14, Melanie Sullivan and Finarty each finished with 13 and Alyssa Vaske totaled 10.
Abby Wadle topped the KHS charts with three blocks followed by Finarty and McKay with two apiece.
Knoxville collected nine ace serves in the contest, led by Finarty and Vaske with three each.
The Panthers have a week off before they are on the court again Saturday, Oct. 12 for the Pella Invitational starting at 9 a.m.
Knoxville is expected to meet Pella, Mediapolis and Iowa City Liberty in pool play.
Adel, Bondurant-Farrar and Boone will also be at the tournament.
