The Melcher-Dallas girls opened Blue Grass Conference play Friday night by totally dominating the Eagles from Ankeny Christian Academy 48-20.
It didn’t take the Saints long to take command as they took a 9-2 lead after one quarter of play and four minutes into the second stanza the lead had ballooned to 19-2. Leading the charge for the Saints was Riley Enfield with three baskets and Haley Godfrey with a pair of baskets and a free throw. By halftime the Saints were enjoying a comfortable 23-6 lead.
In the third period the two teams played even, but in the final eight minutes the Saints found the range for a 19-8 advantage that settled the final score at 48-20.
In that run Godfrey had a three point basket and another basket on the base line while Destinie Swanks added a three point bucket and a conventional three point play on the inside.
“We needed a win badly,” Saints Coach Kelsey Goff said. “This will help boost their confidence. We know that we must improve our ball handling and our shooting.”
Swanks was the only Saint in double digits, but Kacey Enfield, Godfrey and Kynser Reed each put down eight points.
Swanks, Reed and Grace Overgaard were the rebound leaders with six apiece and Riley Enfield led in steals with five.
