Knoxville’s Wyatt Darnell works on collecting a fall at the Colfax-Mingo Tournament held Jan. 25. The Panthers were 5-0 as a team in the dual tournament to give them first place overall. The Panthers are gearing up for the post season which gets underway this Saturday at the Sectional Meet in Albia.

Knoxville was perfect at 5-0 as they won the Colfax-Mingo varsity wrestling tournament Jan. 25.

The Panthers reeled off wins over Pleasantville 49-28, Colfax-Mingo 45-30, Council Bluffs Abe Lincoln 54-30, Lynnville-Sully 54-24 and North Mahaska 57-9.


In the win over the Pleasantville Trojans the Panthers picked up six pins one forfeit and two decisions.

Pleasantville picked up three forfeits and had two wins.

Winning for the Trojans were Isaac Mann with a pin and Kitt Lundy 11-2.

Knoxville victories were claimed by Luke Spaur, Gabe Gordon, Jax Bellon, Nash Linsley, Wyatt Darnell and Jared Landsperger. Koby Gordon had a 100 win at 145 pounds and Sean Collins capture a narrow 5-3 verdict at 132.


Against the Tiger-Hawks the Panthers had pins by Koby Gordon, Bellon, Gavin Montalvo and Landsperger.

Marco Alejo had a narrow 8-6 win at 113 pounds.

Spaur, Gabe Gordon and Darnell all won with forfeits.

C.B. Abe Lincoln

It was all Knoxville in a solid 54-30 win over the school from Council Bluffs.

Knoxville picked up seven pins and collected a pair of forfeits en route to scoring 54 points.

KHS backslappers were picked up by Spaur, Gabe Gordon, JJ Beaver, Koby Gordon, Bellon, Nash Linsley and Darnell.

Montalvo and Alejo won by forfeit.


The Hawks were no match for Knoxville as they issued six forfeits. Tack on three Panther pins and this match was over quick.

KHS pins were by Alejo, Spaur and Cael Hollinrake. All three falls came in the first period.

North Mahaska

North Mahaska was also light on wrestlers. They didn’t have enough to fill their roster as they issued Knoxville seven forfeits.

Pins by Gabe Gordon and Nash Linsley added to the KHS point tally of 57.

Jax Bellon added a thrilling 6-5 win at 152 pounds.
