Rylee Dunkin of Twin Cedars crosses the finish line in second place at the State Qualifier in Marshalltown.

Twin Cedars Cross Country Coach Trent Verwers stated, “Tough, tough, tough competition.”

The comments were made following the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet in Marshalltown Thursday, Oct. 24.

TC fared well as Verwers stated, “Rylee (Dunkin) qualified for State, (Brooke) Roby finished the race battling mono and all the runners had personal records besides Rylee. I’m very pleased with the efforts.”

As a team the Sabers were 9th out of the 19 teams that scored points at the meet.

The temperature was in the 40s as runners took on the 5K course, but it was a beautiful sun filled afternoon for all to enjoy.

Sophia Jungling of Aplington-Parkersburg raced away for the 5K win with a time of 19:26 over the Marshalltown course, located at the community college.

The top three teams were Aplington-Parkersburg with 59 points, Hudson 66 and Madrid with 124.

The top 15 runners and top three teams at the State Qualifier all punched their tickets to the state meet in Fort Dodge Nov. 2.

Dunkin, a freshman, had no problem punching her ticket for the State Meet in Fort Dodge Nov. 2.

Dunkin was second overall with a time of 19:55.

The rest of the TC scoring for the day consisted of Kisha Reed in 22nd place at 22:04, Cheyanne Bruns 23rd at 22:04, Grace Bailey 56th at 23:50, Brooke Roby 113th at 27:21 and Chloe Swank 115th at 27:28.

The first five runners counted in the team score for the day.

Andrew Freel was the lone TC boy in the lineup. He was 122nd place overall.
