Sabers finish at 10-8 in Bluegrass Conf.

In Honor of Zade(photo by Perry Bell) A dedication of a bench presented to the Twin Cedars High School took place Friday, June 28 before the Sabers faced Lamoni in varsity baseball action. The bench was dedicated in the name of Zade Groenendyk, who lost his life in 2017. Zade would have been a junior on the TC squad this year. The Twin Cedars Sabers completed Bluegrass Conference play Friday, June 28 facing the Lamoni Demons at home.

An 11-3 setback to the Demons put the Sabers at 11-11 overall and 10-8 in the Bluegrass Conference.


The Sabers won a wild 9-8 decision over the Eagles June 27 in Moulton.

TC trailed 8-1 before scoring seven runs in the fifth to tie the game. In the top of the seventh the Sabers collected the game winning run.

Brayden DenBurger was the winning pitcher for TC with 2.1 innings of work on the hill.

Nathan Smith was the only TC player with two hits He drove in two runs as did Jace Nichols and Hunter McCombs.


Cardinal beat the Sabers 10-0 in a non-conference contest June 26 in Eldon.

The Sabers had just two hits, one each from Zach Peterson and Austin test.

The game was called in the fifth by the 10-run rule.

Daniel Beary took the pitching loss for the Sabers.

Ankeny Christian

The Sabers fell to Ankeny Christian 5-2 June 25. The game was knotted at 2-2 until Ankeny Christian pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh.

TC was limited to six hits, two of them by Nathan Smith and one each by Kade Dunkin, Peterson, Test and Trenton Reed.

Brayden DenBurger took the loss on the mound for TC in relief of Brock DenBurger.
