Trent Verwers takes over control as the head coach of the Twin Cedars Cross Country Team this fall.

The program is in a building mode at the present time.

A total of five girls and one boy make up the varsity rosters for the Sabers.

“On the girls side, we will be able to run a full squad for the first time in awhile. Of our 5 girls, all can help us place pretty high in meets as a team,” Verwers said.

Veteran letter winners back for Tc are sophomores Brooke Roby and Grace Bailey.

“Three of our girls are freshmen. The extra mile they will run this year may be pretty tough on them,” Verwers stated.

The freshmen include Rylee Dunkin, Cheyanne Bruns and Kisha Reed. Dunkin holds numerous Junior High Bluegrass Conference records for TC in track.

The lone runner on the boys’ team is sophomore Andrew Freel.

Verwers asked what he sees in going forward with the season?

“I expect to finish towards the top in every meet this year. I would like to make a lot of progress going into next year, and possibly being able to qualify for the state meet next season,” Verwers replied.

In looking at the schedule the Sabers will race five times in September. The closest being meets at Albia, Oskaloosa, Lynnville-Sully and Moravia.
