A frustrating season on the diamond came to close for the Melcher-Dallas Saints July 13.
M-D opened Class 1A District play facing off against the Moravia Mohawks in Moravia Saturday.
Moravia scored three runs in each of the first two innings and then held on to topple the Saints 6-3.
Ryan Krpan suffered the pitching defeat for M-D. He worked 5.2 innings throwing 111 pitches. He gave up six hits and five earned runs. Krpan walked five and fanned seven.
Coach Pat Ferguson’s Saints had seven hits for the day. Senior Dalton Lovell finished his high school career strong by collecting three hits, one being a double.
Steve Krpan had two hits for the Saints while Ryan Krpan and Derien Jones each had one hit.
M-D seniors making their final appearance in the game were Blaise Cooper and Lovell.
The Saints ended the regular season with a 16-6 loss to the Murray Mustangs at home July 9.
Cooper was the losing hurler for the Saints.
M-D had four hits in the game, two by Max Enfield and one apiece by Cole Metz and Lovell.
The season ended for M-D with a final mark of 6-23.
