After claiming the Bluegrass Conference Softball Championship with a perfect mark of 18-0, the Twin Cedars Sabers have stumbled as of late against some larger schools.
The Sabers fell to the Centerville Redettes of the South Central Conference (SCC) 6-2 July 3.
Next came a pair of losses July 5. One to West Burlington 10-0 where the Sabers were limited to one hit. The other setback was also to a SCC school, Davis County, by the final of 7-3.
Grace Bailey took the loss in the circle for TC. She gave up nine hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Only two of the six runs were earned.
Bailey was the only TC player to have more than one hit in the game as she finished with a double and two singles. Bailey also drove in both Saber runs.
Against West Burlington it was simply a case of the bats being silent.
The lone hit by TC was a single by Caitlyn Reed.
West Burlington scored six runs in the first, two in the third and two in the sixth.
Ali Mockenhaupt suffered the loss in the circle. She gave up 14 hits and eight earned runs, while walking five.
The Mustangs beat the Sabers 7-3.
The Sabers pounded out 10 hits but it wasn’t enough against Davis County.
TC had two hits apiece from Brooke Roby, Bailey, Reed and Jetta Sterner.
Bailey took the pitching defeat as she gave up 11 hits, five earned runs, two walks and struck out two.
