With the Bluegrass Conference Championship tucked away in their pocket, it was time for the Twin Cedars Sabers to venture outside the league to prepare for the postseason.
TC fell to Belle Plaine 6-3 July 1, but came back to beat West Marshall 8-5 the same day. The Sabers also whipped up on Tri-County with an 18-7 thrashing in five-innings July 2.
TC led 2-0 but couldn’t hold off Belle Plaine 6-3. Grace Bailey took the loss in the circle. She gave up five hits and six runs, all of the runs were unearned.
The Sabers had eight hits in the game led by eighth grader Rylee Dunkin with two hits.
Coach Zack Dunkin’s squad had two extra base hits, one a home run off the bat of Bailey and the other a double by Caitlyn Reed.
TC beat the Trojans 8-5 as they started quick with a five-run first inning and never looked back.
The Trojans got to within a run at 6-5 but the Sabers tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth.
Ali Mockenhaupt was the winning pitcher for the Sabers. She gave up 12 hits in five innings of play before giving way to Bailey for the final two frames.
Mockenhaupt was also the hitting star with four hits in four plate appearances, driving in three runs.
Dunkin had one hit, but scored three runs and Reed again had two RBI.
By scoring 15 runs in the first two innings of play the Sabers were on cruise control in an 18-7 win over Tri-County July 2 on the road.
Mockenhaupt was the winning pitcher, giving up nine hits and seven runs.
Offensively the TC bats were sizzling. Dunkin, Bailey and Jetta Sterner each had three hits while Brooke Roby and Reed each added two.
Bailey, Chloe Durian and Chloe Swank each had three RBI for the Sabers.
Following the contests the TC mark stood at 28-5 overall.
