Grace Bailey of Twin Cedars runs at Knoxville.

The five young guns from Twin Cedars continue to show strength. The Lady Sabers were 8th in a field of 14 at the Knoxville Panther Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The meet was held at the Pine Knolls Country Club Course. The temperature was in the low 80s and it was rather humid.

Nevertheless, the Sabers persevered.

The first three TC runners to cross the finish line were all freshman. Rylee Dunkin was 5th overall with a run of 20:48.

Next came teammates Kisha Reed in 33rd at 23:43 and Cheyanne Bruns 34th at 23:43. Rounding out the team scoring were the two sophomores, Grace Bailey in 63rd at 25:19 and Brooke Roby 90th at 29:41.

Indianola’s Emily Naughton, a freshman, won the 5K race with a time of 19:39.

Norwalk was the girls’ team champion with 72 points.

Boys

Melcher-Dallas’ Emery Sage had a strong outing at Knoxville. He was second overall in the varsity 5K race with a time of 17:59.

Grinnell’s Isaac Bryant was the overall winner with a time of 17:29.

Tyler Hartman of M-D was 163rd in the race at 23:39 with Twin Cedars’Andrew Freel 173rd at 24:17.

Jacob Russell of M-D was 205th at 26:05.

A total of 219 runners finished the race.
