Last week was a hectic one for the Pleasantville Trojan basketball team.

The Trojans played four games and they won three of them. The highlight of the week was a Saturday win at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines over the Albia Blue Demons in non-conference play.

Following the big week of games the Trojans stand at 12-5 overall and at 8-5 in Pride of Iowa Conference play.

Saturday the Trojans trailed the Blue Demons 25-22 at halftime. In the third the Trojans went on a run to outscore the Demons 9-0 to take a 37-29 advantage with 1:50 left in the quarter.

In the fourth the Trojans saw a 12 point lead shrink to eight late in the game. Pleasantville had an answer for each Albia run.

The Trojans had a size advantage and they used it. Kyle Amendt popped in 17 points and big Devon Dursky added eight.

Gauge Van Haalen sealed the win with nine second half points, finishing with 17 overall.

Grant Fouch added six points, Owen Worthington four and Caleb Adreon two.

Albia’s leader was Trent Garver with 15 and Cade Crall with 10.

Pleasantville used a 3-2 zone that slowed Albia down in the second half.

“We baited Albia into some action,” stated Gauge Van Haalen after the win. “We had a height advantage and our big guys played well.”

Van Haalen, who has been averaging 9.5 points finished with 17.

“It was nice getting a chance to play here at Wells Fargo. I’d love to make it bak here to play at state,” Van Haalen stated.

Trojan coach Joel Allman replied, “Defensively our zone kept Albia out of the lane. We had balanced scoring and that always helps”

Amendt had 10 rebounds, Van Haalen added five assists and five steals.
