The Twin Cedars Sabers return only three starters from the 2018 varsity football squad that went 4-6 overall. The squad does have seven letter winners on the team to lean on.
The starters returning are seniors Trenton Reed and Austin Test along with junior Kade Dunkin.
Reed was first-team all-district as an offensive lineman a year ago. He will play on both sides of the line in 2019.
Also back is lineman Austin Test as a starter. Kade Dunkin started at wide receiver and defensive back. He was a first-team pick in the district on defense as he led the district in interceptions last fall.
“The strength of our team will be the line on ball sides of the ball. The weakness is the lack of depth especially at the skill positions,” replied head coach Cam Parker.
Sophomore Dallas Clark is being counted on to lead the TC offense at quarterback and on defense as a linebacker. “He will be calling plays on both sides of the ball,” Parker said.
“We also have a number of freshmen linemen that could see time on Friday night,” Parker added.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck appears to be the team to beat in the district according to the TC coach. He also mentioned that AGWSR looks to be strong in the district as well.
Parker stated, “I look for us to improve every week of play and to go out and surprise some teams. I feel people think we will be down. We hope to not be as down as they may believe.”
Odds and Ends
The Sabers will face Colo-Nesco for Homecoming Sept. 13 in Parker’s second season as head coach.
