A total of 20 boys and three girls have reported to practice for the Pleasantville Trojan wrestling team this year.

Trojan Head Coach Heath DeForest is starring his fifth year in charge of the squad.

Pleasantville is coming off a season where they were 7-8 in dual meets with quite a few others cancelled due to the inclement weather that was so severe a year ago.

Back from that team are six letter winners ready to lead the way this season. The list of veterans back include returning state qualifiers Cale Anthony and Matthew Kauffman. Anthony is a senior and Kauffman is a junior. Others who lettered include Kitt Lundy and Devon Luing, a pair of sophomores, who both were district qualifiers back in February.

Sayde Mull and Brynn Miller are a pair of young ladies, who each medaled at the first ever high school girls’ state meet earlier in the year.

Mull, a senior, finished fifth at the girls’ state meet while Miller, a sophomore, was fourth at state.

“The strength of our team would be our upper weights. We look for them to lead us once again. As for the weakness, overall very inexperienced. A few injuries and others not on the team this year will make our young wrestlers have to step up,” DeForest said.

In looking around the WCAC DeForest looks for Van Meter/Earlham, Interstate-35, Woodward-Granger and AC/GC.

DeForest stated, “Our conference provides some very tough team that help us in the future.”

He added, “I expect the team to continue to improve everyday and by the end of the year I feel we’ll be in a good spot to make a run.”
